Digital FIR Filter Design using Windowing Method

The user had to input values like Attenuation in Stop band (As) and Pass band (Ap) as well as Pass band frequency, Stop band frequency and sampling frequency. The window function is required to truncate infinite samples of hd(n). A high pass filter and a bandpass filter was designed. The phase  plot being linear there will be no distortion at the output.

  1. Window method is very preferable for filter design because choice of the window depends on the noise characteristics, transition region and other filter design specifications.

  2. The selection criteria of Window functions mainly depends upon the value of attenuation in stop band i.e., 'As'

  4. Rectangular window is rarely used for truncation as As is very low as compared to other window functions.
